Living wage is subject of many (international) public debate. According to the UniversalDeclaration of Human Rights and the International Labour Organization, everyone isentitled to a living wage. Although a living wage is a universal human right, wages inapparel-producing countries are still (much) too low. This was confirmed in a study commissioned by the Schone Kleren Campagne conducted in India and Bangladesh in 2009: garment workers earn only half of what they need to be able to cover their basic
(family) needs.
At the 8th Talks at Banz, an event organised by the Puma company, questions surrounding decent wages in the supply chain were at the heart of the stakeholder dialogue in November 2010.
